Service Description
Want to learn to sew, work a sewing machine, plan a great sewing project, select & prepare terrific fabrics, and create wonderful garments or accessories? Then Sew Smart is for you! In this introduction to sewing, students will learn a wide variety of skills, gain experience with a number of sewing tools & machines, and discover the joy of creating original clothing! Come to the first class prepared to dive into fashion. You'll start with a look at commercial patterns and a tour of Pamela's massive fabric room to jump start your creativity. You'll be introduced to sewing machines at which you will start your own first sewing samples. Then you'll take measurements to determine size & plan your first project so you can shop for your supplies during the following week. By class number 2 you may be pinning & cutting your fit muslin or your original design! This class is also a great choice for intermediate sewers wishing for more experience with their design projects. (Intermediate sewers are not required to do beginner practice samples.) College Prep: Students preparing for college fashion design programs may use this class to become familiar with the skills needed to succeed in college. SEWING MACHINES ARE PROVIDED IN CLASS, however you may bring your own portable if you prefer. Bring to first class: Beginning students are not required to bring anything to first class. All sample fabrics for first class are provided by instructor. Intermediate students may bring your current or a new sewing project, sewing supplies & tools. This class is taught by fashion designer Pamela Ptak who makes custom garments for red carpet events & worked 12 seasons on designer collections for the Paris Haute Couture and NY Fashion Week.
