Service Description

In the Haute Couture, fashion industry design rooms are divided into two categories... Flou (soft dresses) and Taileur (tailoring). This Haute Couture class teaches the draping of the finest soft gowns, as well as extraordinary nightgowns & slips. Taught by fashion designer Pamela Ptak, who makes custom garments for red carpet events & worked for 12 seasons on designer collections for the Paris Haute Couture and New York Fashion Week, this class includes actual techniques used in the Haute Couture by top designers the world over. Week one, students watch instructor demonstrations of sketching and draping a soft gown, then students proceed to sketch and design their own sample gown guided by Pamela and using methods presented. All gowns are draped on dress forms in soft, fluid textiles to simulate the behavior of the final gown textile. Then the draping is trued in and converted to patterns. During several sessions Pamela will show historic garments designed by major fashion designers  whose lines are shown at the Paris Haute Couture & share details from important couture garments. Each student's semester project is a soft gown sketched, draped, transferred to patterns, sewn as a "test fit muslin" & finishing with the sewn gown presented to instructor and class. Class Dates: This 12 week class includes several skipped weekends throughout the semester for larger homework assignments. Bring to first class: notebook & no. 2 pencils, sharp scissors. Most tools & supplies needed for this class are already in your collection, however any additional you need may be purchased in class or ordered online between class 1 & 2.
