Draping
Wovens

FASHION DESIGN INTENSIVE PROGRAM - (college level)
13 Saturdays    Oct 21 - Feb 3    4pm-6:40pm   -  3 credits      "Draping Wovens 1"
Class cost: $975 for 13 weeks    Students 18-adult   Instructor: Pamela Ptak

The garment industry acknowledges 5 basic silhouettes which form the basis of many other forms used in design. In this class, you'll learn to drape all five basic silhouettes. Working on full-size dress forms in the AFI™ studios, each student will drape their own garment patterns in muslin, then true it in and re-pin it as a 1/2 body muslin. As you develop an understanding of the balance, proportion & scale of these very important basics, you will begin to discover the nuances which make up a designer's personal style. The understanding of draping also provides a fine background to sewers looking for perfect fit. This class is especially suited to beginning drapers, as well as students heading to further fashion school.
Class Dates: This Saturday class includes skipped weekends throughout the semester for larger homework assignments & holidays. Snow days could move final class date.
Bring to first class: 5 yards of crisp medium-weight muslin, sharp fabric scissors, no. 2 pencils and notebook. Drafting tools required for class will be shown in 1st class and may be purchased at the school or online between class 1 & 2.
